IACUC Mandatory Animal Training

This Web site is for Cleveland VA Medical Center research staff, their partners and affiliated academic community.

All individuals working with animals must complete the training listed below:

VA CITIprogram Training

The CITI training can be accessed at: http://www.citiprogram.org* Register or login at the Citi program home page. Complete the 7 Registration Steps. Select “VA Cleveland, OH 541” as the organization. All individuals working with animals must complete the following courses:

  • "Working with the IACUC"
  • "VA ARF Orientation"
  • "Occupational Health VA"
  • Any other protocol-specific or species-specific courses

Occupational Health

All individuals working with animals must complete the Laboratory Animal Allergy Questionnaire* and go over it with VA Personnel Health Staff prior to working with animals. This will be sent to you from VA Personnel Health Staff. Christina Raymond (216) 791-3800 ext. 4660 will schedule appointments for WOC appointees.

Each employee working with animals must complete the Laboratory Animal Allergy Questionnaire Follow-Up* annually each March. Individuals are notified via email when this is required.

ARF Orientation and Hands on Training

All individuals working hands on with the animals in the Animal Research Facility (ARF) must complete the ARF Orientation and hands on training with one of the ARF veterinary staff. Please schedule an appointment with Karen Day* or Brian Oconnell* RVT. (216) 791-3800 ext. 4642.

New Employee Safety Orientation

All individuals working with animals must complete the Research Safety Orientation. Please contact John Schaffer* (216) 791-3800 ext. 4263 to schedule the training. A written refresher training is required annually. Individuals are notified via email when this is required.
